Subdomains

Q. Please read this before setting up a subdomain!
A. cPanel will ask you for the name you wish to use as the subdomain. Please BE SURE that the sub domain you give it doesn't already have a folder named that name. If it does, it won't work.

Q. What is a subdomain?
A. www.tallyhost.com is a subdomain. A subdomain is anything that replaces the www in a domain name such as forum.tallyhost.com. wwww.forum.tallyhost.com is NOT a subdomain.

Q. How do I setup a subdomain?
A. Please visit our Subdomain Tutorial page.

Add-on Domains

Q. What's an add-on domain?
A. An add-on domain is a fully functional domain that will work out of a filter in your main sites FTP.

Q. Read this before setting up an add-on domain!
A. You can't create and add-on domain if your DNS hasn't prorogated to the server yet (which may take 24-48 hours). There are three fields cPanel asks for when creating and add-on domain:

  1. "New Domain Name" You will put newdomainname.com, not www.newdomainname.com!
  2. "Username/directory/subdomain Name" This will be the folder cPanel creates in your main accounts FTP. Make sure that the name you give it doesn't already have a folder. An example would be if you have a username "chad" then you can't have a folder in our account name "chad" already. Please don't do this!
  3. "Password" Fill in any password you want here.

Q. How do I create an add-on domain?
A. Please visit our Add-on Web Tutorial page.

Q. I added an add-on domain. Why did it say subdomain added?
A. cPanel creates it as a subdomain by creating the folder within your main sites FTP. Please ignore this, it's only called a subdomain when it's actually an add-on domain.
